Dehradun to Varanasi – Train
============================
I am not going to write much about this overnight journey on the sleeper. It was pretty much the same as all the others, but far less crowded. There were mostly students on board, the toilets stayed clean-ish, and the second half of the journey was spent talking to a young-Canadian, Tanya.
There was a lot of time spent traveling through the landscape in daylight hours, which gave me a chance to stare out of the windows for a long time. This, I realised, was actually my only chance to to do so in India, thanks to my efficiency with always being on trains overnight ; ) There really must be no comparable country to travel in by rail. The sheer mass of humanity, over such a massive expanse of land, and almost every inch cultivated by hand. Beauty, tragedy, everything and everyone just rolls pas the window and occasionally reaches in or walks past begging.
